Croatia is a small European country which is getting increasingly popular tourist destination. Whether you are a „Game of Thrones“ fan or you just have a friend of a friend who visited Croatia and can’t stop talking about it. So you decided to visit Croatia for your holidays for the first time. We will present you some useful tips and recommendations so you can get the most of your holiday.
1) Travel off-season
The peak season in Croatia runs from July until August and in that period prices are at their highest level. If you want to save some money and avoid crowds you can plan your visit in spring. In April and May the weather is relatively pleasent and warm, although the sea is still cold (15-19 Celsius). The other preferable months would be June and September. The weather at that period is perfect for sunbathing and swimming.

2) Choose your base location wisely
Although Croatia is a small country it is impposible to visit entire country for a one week stay. Coastline is about 700km from the northern to the souther point of the country. So, you need a good base location from where you can operate. For example, if you want to visit Dalmatia, Split would be an excellent choice. From Split you can take organized day trips and visit beautiful islands such as Hvar, Korcula, and Brac, or towns like Trogir and Solin.

3) Find suitable accomodation
Accomodation in Croatia is really diverse, from hotels and hostels up to apartment rentals and camps. They all do have their pros and cons and actually depend on a person’s choice. However, apartment rental would be my recommendation. Croatians have a long tradition of hosting tourists from all around the world. Practically, there is no family along the coast that doesn’t rent apartments to tourists. It is cheaper then a hotel and practical for families or a group of friends. Apartments are very well equipped and if the weather gets ugly for a day or two you
have much more space.

4) Don’t worry about the language
You don’t have to worry about not knowing the Croatian language. Because in Croatia, English is widely spoken language besides German and Italian. That is because in Croatian education system, children start to learn English from the 1st grade of primary school. Almost everybody speaks at least a little English, if not they will do their best with mimics and gestures to help you out.
5) Go sailing and island hopping
When in Croatia, you shouldn’t miss island hopping and sailing because it will give you such great memories for a lifetime. Regarding the transportation you can choose from ferries, organized daily trips or renting a charter boat. The best option would be a renting a charter boat which are cheaper in the off-season. The most exciting island hoping that you can experience is in the National Park Kornati. Kornati islands are also known as a nautical paradise with 89 islands, islets and reefs which you can try to conquer in a day.
Once you visit Croatia, you will notice quickly what makes it so attractive. It is really amazing how much beauty is packed in such a small country and hopefully your first time in Croatia won’t be the last one.
